by Bob M
(Mount Holly N.J. US)

Hello there,I'm happy I found your site.I am 52 and have been enjoying yoga off and on for years.I'll tell you why it has been off and on some other time. For now, I would like to ask you all for advice. After working for 30 yrs. lifting books and paper, having surgery on both hands,it is very painful just to extend my arms or put weight on my hands. Can anybody help? Thanks, and I'll be writing again.

About the pain in your hands
by: Giselle

Hello,

I wanted to comment on your painful problem with your hands. First, find out what your doctor suggests. If he does not give you any limitations, I would start a gentle practice of stretching the wrists in all directions, then gently going into a downward dog position to further strengthen the wrists, hands, arms and shoulders. There are also many other ways to start the strengthening and stretching process with other yoga asanas that put emphasis on the hands and wrists. Go gently and be consistent and I think you'll see an improvement over time.
